Football

Football refers to a team sport played primarily with a spherical ball between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by advancing the ball into the opposing team’s net. The sport is known by different names in various regions; for example, in the United States and Canada, it refers to American football, while in most other countries, it is synonymous with soccer.

In soccer, which is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), players use their feet to control and propel the ball, although they can also use their bodies, except for their arms and hands (the latter are reserved for the goalkeeper). The game is played on a rectangular field with a goal at each end, and matches typically consist of two halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with added time for stoppages.

Football is one of the world’s most popular sports, both in terms of participation and viewership, with millions of fans around the globe and a rich history of international competitions, such as the FIFA World Cup. The term “football” can also refer to various codes of football, including rugby, Australian rules football, and others, depending on regional preferences.
