Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Players use a strung racket to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over a net into the opponent’s court. The objective is to score points by landing the ball in the opponent’s designated area of the court, with the opponent unable to return the ball successfully.

The game is played on various surfaces, including grass, clay, and hard courts, each affecting the speed and style of play. Tennis matches are divided into sets and games, with players needing to win a specific number of games to win a set and a certain number of sets to win the match. Scoring in tennis includes points that progress from love (0) to 15, 30, and 40, culminating in the winning of a game.

Tennis is governed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and has a rich history, with major tournaments such as the Grand Slam events (Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open) being highlights of the sport. It is known for its combination of physical endurance, strategy, and mental fortitude.
